Though I've made efforts to do all this on the cheap, expenses are just about unavoidable unless I want to be a complete and utter sponge.  I had to purchase some tracks which I considered vital to the collection -- tracks which were not found in personal collections nor in libraries.  Most of the direct costs below are for the CD-R media and the jewel cases to house the media. 

Indirect costs, such as for driving to the many libraries, printing things, the value of time, depreciation of my capital equipment, et. al., are not enumerated.
